About

about elly
My name is Elly Brooks and I love to take photographs.

I am pursuing my passion for travel, connecting with people and our vast landscape, through photography. To me, photography is about capturing people, locations, cultures and ideas. My aim is to take photographs that create an understanding and insight into the destination,  the people and their stories.

Fifteen years ago I travelled to Antarctica and South America. I bought a Canon 400D and a couple of lenses. On the plane over I read the instruction manual and I was inspired to capture the beauty and awe of the continent and the wildlife.

Since then I have strived to record the world as I see it, with honesty and compassion. I have travelled extensively and whilst my husband Alan used to write our travel blogs, I now take the photos

In 2013 I completed a diploma of Photography with The Photographic Institute and I have attended several masterclasses. In 2020 I studies at Photography Studies Centre in Melbourne, completing a diploma of Photography.

In 2014, I, together with renowned photographer, Emanual Santos, photographed “March of The Living” journey to Berlin and Poland and then created a book comprising the history and photographs which was distributed to the participants and libraries. I have had several photos published and my Lamington National Park photograph won first prize in a regional photo competition.

In 2022 I began a passion for aerial photography and perhaps this was a segway to marry my passion for aviation and photography. I have always marvelled at the landscape as seen from the air and how incredible that the indigenous aboriginals could capture the perspective without taking flight. I was travelling in South Australia and when we arrived at Lake Eyre, I went to the airport to charter an aircraft. The pilot was unfamiliar with removing the door, but I assured him I could do that, as my previous career was aviation pilot, and that was my first experience of sitting away from the controls to take photos. I love the aerial abstract images and so began my pursuit for aerial abstract art photography. I have twice photographed from a helicopter in Western Australia. 2023 in East Kimberley and 2024 on the west side of Kimberley.

My Gear Today: I have since upgraded to a mirrorless Canon R5 and keep my trusty Canon EOS 5D  wit a selection of lenses

I have photographed weddings, model photo shoots and family portraits and I enjoy the huge scope of photography especially landscapes, including abstract aerial photos, wildlife and people. A number of my wildlife photos are exhibited Anglo Eastern cargo ships.
